I wouldn't even know where to begin here! I have been a huge fan since the first ep aired in 1993- I caught it while studying in my dorm room freshman year. I loved it instantly. Initially it was the paranormal topic that caught me, as I have always been a big sci-fi/horror buff. Then it was an appreciation for how very intelligent it was- the complex themes, the witty dialogue, the incorporation of science themes, the sheer awesomeness of Special Agent Dana Scully (as a female myself going into the hard sciences, she was such a tremendous role model and inspiration to me!)- there was absolutely nothing else like it on t.v. then. Prior to the XF, I was huge into Twin Peaks, but I must say, my XF obsession has taken on proportions of crack-headed addiction in a class of its own. It has influenced my life in a major way- so much so that I would say it is now part of my personal mythology. The struggle between faith and reason and what we can know, assessing what is truly important in this world (belief in your own truth, belief in another, tenacity, etc) When I am wondering how to approach something, or what action to take, I often wonder "WWSD? what would Scully do in this situation?! as she is a paragon of virtue imho! It is significant that I ended up becoming a scientist working for the federal government as well. XF demonstrated that the quest for a higher purpose and fidelity to that purpose is a worthwhile life pursuit. I continue, almost 20 years later, to watch it as a dedicated fangirl. And now, I have my kids starting to watch it with me- wow!

Mmm, have you got all day Young Believer, because I could be here quite a while.

For me, the reason I love the show are many. The relationships of the characters are wonderfully played, yes, by both the writers and of course, David, Gillian, Robert, Annabeth and Mitch as well as everyone else that played an important part of the show, but for me, personally the key to my interest in the show was always the way the show managed to mix different types of story telling, genres and styles as it continuted over the course of nine years. I don't think any show, before or since, had ever the balls to be able to do a scary horror one week, a black comedy the next, and then an alien conspiracy thriller the week after that. It was superb. Yes, it sometimes gave the show a somewhat strange almost schizophrenic style, but that was part of the fun, you never knew what you were going to get and best of all, the series managed to take any failures in its stride and usually deliver a stone cold classic the next. No show on the air at the moment has the guts to do that, and for that I think The X Files is a show that really stands out. Brilliant.

Hope your speech goes well by the way Young Believer. Hope you let us know how it went.

The first time I saw X-files I was like 14 or 15 years old... and the first thing that I find great about it was it atmospehere, I liked that it was dark.. and it wasn't a light show with some brainless characters.. the episodes where great.. I mean very smart, and funny and scary.. everything I ever wish for.. at least in tv...

how X-files afected me?? wow in so many freaking ways.. I'm soo geek... but I like to think that in a good kind of way :D I learn english so I can do... well.. this (I'm from Colombia,, we talk spanish here... oh by the way.. I'm sorry.. my english is still not perfect :) I used to hate studing english.. but with x-files.. it was just another day in paradise!!!!

Oh and I think the biggest was... well.. is.. I'm a medical doctor... and I used to say that I wanted to be like Scully... I'm doing her job now... I'm a pathologist (how geek is that???!!!) and Scully was a great role model.. so I like to think that I'm a doctor because of the x files.. (not that I say that to anyone... but I guess you guys get me :)

Well hope you get my english.. and if you feel like skyping or add me on FB go ahead!! I'll be glad!!!

:D That is AWESOME that you are a pathologist! You are a fullly realized Scullyist! I was very positively influenced by her character too- I was just starting school to be a biologist when the show started, and Scully's fierce intelligence and uncompromising scientific acumen was very inspiring to a young women going to focus on a career in science- I think she inspired many in that way- we were starved to see that type of woman portrayed on television! Its still rare to find today, even so many years later. It is so wonderful that you were successful in acheiving such a big accomplishment- congratulations!

Thank you!!! I guess Scully showed us that if you work for anything you want.. you're gonna get it!!!

ho and I don't think there's a characther like Scully.. I mean she was one of the first smart capable females on tv... and I think nobody's been able to do a complete character as Scully... she's our one in 5 billions ;)
